SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Nay Aug Park in Scranton was filled with color on Saturday as the city marked its first annual Pride Month Family Day celebration, bringing together more than 50 vendors and nonprofits, many of them LGBTQ+ owned.

Despite a rainy start, the event continued rain or shine with family-friendly activities and booths. Visitors shopped, connected with community organizations and watched queer-themed theater.

Scranton Pride said the goal was to highlight the importance of the LGBTQ+ community and reinforce that Pride is for everyone.

“Our objective this year was really about visibility in the community and also creating spaces that are multi-generational,” explained Scranton Pride Committee member Jessica McGuigan. “Historically, Pride in Scranton has been night life. So, we wanted to make sure that the families and the people who are sober or just don’t do late nights, that they had a place to celebrate with their community,” an organizer said.

Family Day was one of several Pride events hosted by Scranton Pride during June. Organizers said they were happy with the turnout and plan to build on the event next year.
