WASHINGTON, D.C. (WHTM) — Pennsylvania will be represented at the Great American State Fair after all.

The Commonwealth’s delegation to the U.S. Senate announced a planned “strong presence” at the fair on the National Mall, set to celebrate the United States’ semiquicentennial.

The effort is through a coalition of Pennsylvania organizations like the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, and more, along with U.S. Senators Dave McCormick (R-PA) and John Fetterman (D-PA) and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins.

“Pennsylvania is where America’s story began, and there was no way we were going to let the Commonwealth go unrepresented during our Nation’s 250th birthday celebration,” said McCormick. “As the birthplace of American independence, home to the hallowed grounds of Gettysburg, and the engine for the arsenal of democracy, Pennsylvania has a special responsibility to preserve, celebrate, and share that enduring legacy.”

“Pennsylvania’s story is simply too important to be missing from our nation’s capital during America’s 250th birthday celebration,” said Luke Bernstein, President and CEO of the PA Chamber. “The Keystone State belongs front and center—and we’re excited to help showcase the people, businesses, and innovation that continue to shape America’s future.”

Pennsylvania was initially going to skip the event citing costs and difficulty finding sponsors.

The fair is being put on by Freedom 250 and kicked off this week. It runs into July.
