The Erie Otters continued to bolster their roster on Tuesday by selecting two forwards in the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
With their first-round pick, the Otters selected Austrian forward Paul Schuster. He appeared in 42 games between the EC Salzburg U20 program and the RB Hockey Juniors of the Alps Hockey League, recording 14 goals and 34 points.
Schuster also represented Austria internationally, appearing in 18 games between the country’s U18 and U20 national teams. During his time with the U18 squad, he served as an alternate captain.
In the second round, Erie selected Luka Arkko. The Lahti, Finland, native split last season between the Pelicans U18 and U20 programs, spending the majority of the year with the U20 team. In 46 combined games, Arkko recorded 33 points on 17 goals and 16 assists.
“The Otters are thrilled welcome Luka and the Arkko family to the Otters,” said Erie Otters director of hockey operations Scott Grieve. “Luka is a player who we have watched for months and believe he will fit in seamlessly with our group. He adds size and tenacity to our forward group.”
Arkko was also selected in last weekend’s NHL Entry Draft, where he was chosen by the Detroit Red Wings in the sixth round.
