Berks Coroner: 80-year-old man dies from fall as tree limb hits him | Northern Berks County

BERN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Berks County Coroner’s Office is investigating an accidental death that happened Tuesday night in Bern Township. 

At 5:09 p.m., the Berks County 911 Center received a call reporting a fall victim at the back of a home in the 1000 block of Mahlon Drive, the coroner’s office said. 

The coroner says the investigation determined that the homeowner was using a pole saw while standing on a ladder when a tree limb fell and hit him, causing both the victim and the ladder to fall to the ground.

The victim has been identified as 80-year-old Donald Paul Glass, according to coroner Matthew J. Stitzel.

Glass was pronounced dead at the scene by the Berk’s County Coroner’s Office at 5:53 p.m., according to officials. 

The coroner says the cause of death has been determined to be blunt force trauma and traumatic asphyxiation. The manner of death has been ruled accidental.
