The Pittsburgh Penguins made one of the first moves on NHL free agency day, signing defenseman Trevor Van Riemsdyk on Wednesday, according to Chris Johnston of the Athletic.
PuckPedia reported the terms as two years with a $4 million cap hit.
Van Riemsdyk, who turns 35 next month, has spent the past six seasons with the Washington Capitals. In 751 NHL games, he has 28 goals, 161 points. That includes three goals, 14 points last season.
He joins a crowded field of right-handers among Penguins blueliners, but Van Riemsdyk can play both sides.
