BIRDSBORO, Pa. — The Reading Coffee Company is throwing a big party to welcome the Union Pacific’s “Big Boy.”
The cafe in the Birdsboro area is hosting a sold out party Thursday.
About 250 people are expected to stop by for some coffee and a chance to watch the train pass by on the tracks.
Organizers say they plan to have a tent, fans and ice cream to help people keep cool.
“I think it’s really good for the community, it seems like a lot of people will be following it,” said Will Lamm, digital marketing and social media manager. “Overall online I’ve been tracking it across the states and it’s exciting and really cool to have it come right through here.”
The Big Boy will be in the Hamburg area Thursday from about noon to 12:15 p.m., the Leesport area from about 12:40 p.m. to 12:45 p.m., then the Reading Outer Station in Muhlenberg Township from 1:05 p.m. to 2:20 p.m., then it will head through the Birdsboro area on the way to Pottstown, Montgomery County.
