DEP confirms 1,000 gallons of oil leaked into Pgh. waterway

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is monitoring the impact of a leak this week in Lovedale.

The DEP confirms that about a thousand gallons of D-3 oil leaked from a tanker truck, into Wylie Run, which is a tributary to the Mon River.

D-3 is described as a binding agent similar to glue that solidifies quickly. It sank to the bottom of the waterway.

A clean-up crew is removing affected plant life and other contaminated areas.

he agency says a fish kill was observed.

Three Rivers Waterkeepers defers to the DEP and the Fish and Boat Commission but describes the number of dead fish as “significant.”
