Pittsburgh police car involved in crash on Parkway East

We do have *** couple of more days to go, one more day specifically of our extreme heat warning and our heat advisory across Western Pennsylvania. Now, depending on what happens with showers and thunderstorms tomorrow, this could get extended one more day, especially around Allegheny County. So we’ll see kind of how tomorrow plays out, but it’s still going to be dangerously hot as we head through your Friday. High temperatures should still be into the lower middle 90s. Feels like values will still climb well into the triple digits. We’ll start them backing down each day, even though high. In the 90s this weekend, it won’t feel quite as bad as we get through the weekend. That’s thanks to cloud cover and also our rain chances for the weekend and then temperatures finally break out of this heat wave as Monday our highs will be in the 80s. That is closer to where we should be for this time of year. Starting tomorrow we’re watching for the chance for thunderstorms. We now have *** scattered rest. That’s *** level 2 out of 5 from the storm Prediction Center. We also have that for Saturday as well. Main concern for many thunderstorms in the next 2 days will be strong winds. Heavy rain is also possible, but really the wind is the primary concern as these storms could pack *** punch if they’re able to develop and tap into the wind that is out there. Otherwise, lightning is also *** concern. Flooding looks unlikely, but if you see multiple storms over the next few days, that could be *** localized problem and something we’ll be watching. 93 is your high temperature tomorrow. The best chance really starts opening up late in the day. 92 on your Fourth of July, 90 on Sunday. That is an impact day, mostly for that rain and storm. Chance one more chance of storms on Monday at 86 and temperatures are more normal as we head through next week and we will try and stay dry until next Friday. That’s likely when our next cold front tries to get here. Low temperatures back into the 60s means we break the humidity as we head into next week as well. We’ll start the clock tomorrow morning. The feature cast. We’ll see sunshine and as we head late in the day again, we may see *** shower or thunderstorm pop. It looks like the best chance is well after sunset, mainly north of the city of Pittsburgh. We should be dry as we start your 4. Fourth of July and then showers and storms will be possible as we head through the afternoon and early evening trying to clear as we get towards fireworks and then one more shot at seeing showers and thunderstorms as we head into your Sunday. It’s beautiful outside, it’s just hot, 92 at the airport. It feels like it’s 98 again. That’s at the airport. Downtown, it feels hotter. It’s gonna be hot this evening. We’ll still be near feeling like 90 at 11 o’clock, and again, we’ll feel like we’re in the triple digits as we head through tomorrow afternoon.

A Pittsburgh Police K9 vehicle was involved in a crash with another car on the Parkway East early Thursday evening.

It happened at about 6 p.m. on I-376 outbound near the Squirrel Hill exit, according to a statement from Pittsburgh Public Safety.

“Preliminary information indicates the driver rear-ended the officer in traffic,” the statement said. “The officer was not responding to a scene and the K9 was not in the vehicle at the time of the collision.”

Public safety officials said the driver was taken to the hospital with minor arm injuries.

The officer was taken to the hospital for drug and alcohol testing, which is police bureau protocol.

The bureau’s collision investigation unit responded to the crash.
