The 13th annual “Yoga on the Roof” returns to Scranton on July 4 at 9:00 AM at the Electric City Parking Garage, featuring live music by the NEPA Philharmonic.
SCRANTON, Pa. — A Fourth of July tradition is back in Scranton for its 13th year. Jaya Yoga and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic are once again teaming up for Yoga on the Roof.
“There will be anywhere from 150-200 people. You do not have to be a yogi to come. All levels are welcome. We make sure the class is accessible. Last year we had people bringing their own chairs,” Jaya Yoga Owner Hilary Steinberg said.

The one hour yoga class is accompanied by live music from the NEPA Philharmonic.
“We will have a trio of philharmonic musicians playing and they’re just incredible. It’s an experience like no other here with this incredible view,” Steinberg said.
There are refreshments after class. It’s a $20 donation and all proceeds benefit the NEPA Philharmonic.
“The money for this is allocated towards the education programs. We do a young people’s concert. Last year we had over 1,800 people in the concert hall. We do programs in libraries,” NEPA Philharmonic Board Member Carol Nelson Dembert said.
In addition to Yoga on the Roof, the philharmonic is doing a free performance on Scranton’s Courthouse Square on Friday at 7:30pm. It’s part of the city’s Scrantastic Spectacular celebration.
“The philharmonic will be presenting this free concert of patriotic favorites with our Music Director Melisse Brunet and Soprano Jessica Lee, a full orchestra, we’ll have John Williams, John Philip Sousa and so much more,” NEPA Philharmonic Executive Director Chason Goldschmitz said.
Yoga on the Roof takes place on the 4th of July at 9am on the roof of the Marketplace at Steamtown’s Electric City Parking Garage.
