TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Numerous agencies are searching for a missing 11-year-old Toledo girl who went out on a boat and hasn’t been seen since. A man she was boating with was found dead in the water and a woman on board was able to make it to shore.
Authorities identified the missing child as 11-year-old Angelique Cunningham.

Officials with Toledo Fire and Rescue and the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) gave an update on the case early Thursday evening. They said search efforts for the girl were ongoing after the boat the three were in was recovered near West Sister Island.
The man’s body was found outside of Meinke Marina about a mile out from shore, authorities told the 13 Action News I-TEAM. His identity hasn’t been released yet. A boater found the body and called 911.
The woman who was on board was questioned by authorities, the sheriff said. She was able to swim to shore. LCSO said the woman was the child’s babysitter.
LCSO Captain Bobby Chromik was asked whether anyone is considered a suspect in the case at this time.
“I don’t think anybody’s being considered a suspect, per se. I think right now what we’re looking at is this is probably a horrific accident in terms of what happened to this gentleman,” Chromik said. “But our primary focus right now is to find the 11-year-old to make sure she’s safe.”
He added that authorities are using every available resource to help the search for Angelique Cunningham.
Crews from TFRD, LCSO, the Coast Guard, Oregon Fire, ODNR and Jerusalem Township Fire were all part of the response on Thursday.
Toledo Fire and Rescue Chief Allison Armstrong said a boater called in the report of the body found in Lake Erie around 9:50 a.m. on July 2.
As first responders began working to recover the man’s body, authorities learned there might be a missing person related to the case and that’s when agencies began working together on a unified command structure to try and find Angelique.
The three went out for a recreational boat ride Wednesday night, Chromik said.
