(WHTM)– United States Marshals located a missing Louisiana child in Western Pennsylvania last week.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, on Thursday, October 30, marshals from Western Pennsylvania located the 13-year-old child in the basement of a residence in Pittsburgh. An investigation determined that the child travelled on a bus from Columbus, Georgia, to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Marshals said on October 24, the Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit teamed up with the United States Marshals Service Middle Louisiana Fugitive Task Force’s District Sex Offender Coordinator to search for a missing child.

It was determined that the child may have had online contact with an unknown adult male. The Marshals Service said that on Monday, October 27, a 62-year-old man was arrested in New Orleans for his alleged involvement in the disappearance. Marshals said they discovered the man was with the child at a Greyhound Bus Station in Baton Rouge earlier that week.

Another suspect, identified as Ronald Smith, 62, was later arrested in Columbus for simple kidnapping and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, marshals said. Smith was allegedly with the child.

USMS District of Western Pennsylvania, with the assistance of the FBI, the Pittsburgh Police Department, and the Allegheny County Juvenile Probation Office, was able to locate the child in the basement of a residence in Pittsburgh on October 30.

The marshals’ service said a medical examination revealed evidence of sexual assault and that the child was with two other adults.

The marshals service said that the investigation is ongoing, with authorities looking into other individuals as part of the investigation.
