Severe thunderstorms moved through the Lehigh Valley on Friday evening, July 3, 2026, causing significant tree damage that cut power to thousands of area residents amid an extreme heat wave, and just as Fourth of July celebrations were getting started around the region.

The Alburtis and Macungie areas were particularly hard hit, with Alburtis declaring a “state of emergency.”
