Firefighter injured while battling Lower Macungie house blaze

A firefighter was injured early Saturday morning while trying to put out a fire at a house in Lower Macungie Township.

The Lower Macungie Fire Department said it responded to a single residence in the 1200 block of Stein Way around 12:30 a.m. with fire visible from the roof.

A “mayday” call was put out when a firefighter fell through a stairwell while conducting a search inside. He was quickly rescued and was treated on the scene with minor injuries, Lower Macungie Fire said.

Because of worsening conditions, crews were evacuated from the building and master streams were operated.

Two residents were displaced and the fire remains under investigation by the township fire marshal.

Also responding were crews from Upper Macungie Township, Greenawalds Fire Co., Western Salisbury Fire Department, Cetronia Fire Department, Woodlawn Fire Department and Macungie Ambulance Corps.
