The Scrantastic Spectacular overcame stormy beginnings to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with fireworks, music, and patriotism.
SCRANTON, Pa. — Saturday marks 250 years since our nation’s founding, and the Electric City rang in the milestone on Friday night at its Scrantastic Spectacular.
But before the celebration began, thunder and lightning rained on the parade, forcing everyone indoors.
Halal Brothers Owner Nisr Basery says, “Rain going on, everybody runs away, wind, everything going on, so everybody run. We sit in the truck, so some of the people run this way, that way.”
But within hours, the skies cleared, music filled the air, and the celebration was back on.
Cheryl Yeager of Scranton says, “Love this country.”
For some, celebrating the nation’s 250th specifically in Scranton is special.
For others, the semi-quincentennial anniversary is an opportunity to be a part of history.
And as the sun set and the music came to an end, the night sky filled with light to wish America a very happy birthday.
The celebration continues through the weekend, with the FIFA Fan Zone kicking off on Saturday.
