Thousands without power in Central Pennsylvania as heatwave continues

(WTAJ) — Many residents across Central Pennsylvania are without power after the severe weather that came through the area Friday night.

According to FirstEnergy utility company, crews are out attempting to restore power as dry and hot weather continues throughout the day. Thousands of residents in the Punxsutawney and DuBois areas are without power, without a restoration time, as crews begin to assess the damage.

Some residents in Clearfield are still without power after the severe weather caused downed trees and some damage to homes. Over 30 emergency calls were made to the Clearfield Fire Department for electrical emergencies, fire alarms, and damage between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m., the agency said.

WEATHER: A steamy July 4th weekend on tap

Temperatures are nearing 90 with feel-like temperatures in the upper 90s, and storms in some areas are expected throughout Saturday as the heatwave continues.
