The Crushers jumped to a seven-run lead, then held off a Windy City rally to win, 9-8, on July 5 at ForeFront Field in Avon.
Lake Erie DH Samuel Benjamin hit a grand slam and a run-scoring single for a five-RBI afternoon. He has eight home runs and 34 RBI this season.
Third baseman Pavin Parks added a two-run home run, his 12th of the year, to go with 44 runs batted in.
Catcher Nicholas Chavez also had a two-run single. Benjamin, Chavez and second baseman Luis Acevedo each had two hits.
Edwin Sanchez (5-2) earned the win in relief. Sanchez was scheduled to start until bad weather inhibited his pregame routine. Sanchez came on in the fourth inning. He pitched three innings and gave up five runs, including a three-run home run.
Brandyn Sittinger pitched two scoreless innings to earn his eighth save. Windy City had a runner on third base in the eighth and a runner on second in the ninth before Sittinger ended both threats.
Lake Erie (22-29) avoided a weekend sweep. The Crushers are off July 6 and welcome Sussex County to Avon beginning July 7.
