WITH THE CHANGE AND WHAT THE PARK AND GUESTS ARE SAYING, FELICITY. KELLY WE SPOKE TO A FAMILY HEADED INTO THE PARK THIS EVENING. A 23 YEAR OLD SISTER SERVING AS A CHAPERON FOR HER 14 YEAR OLD SISTER AND SIX YEAR OLD BROTHER. THE 14 YEAR OLD SISTER TOLD US THAT SHE HAD SEEN CHATTER OF THIS TEEN TAKEOVER ON SOCIAL MEDIA BEFORE THEY CAME. TODAY. I KNEW IT PROBABLY WASN’T GOING TO HAPPEN BECAUSE IT’S LIKE EVERYBODY’S ALWAYS ALERT WHEN STUFF IS HAPPENING LIKE THAT. BUT YOU KNOW, I JUST LET IT BE. I CAN’T STOP IT, OBVIOUSLY. SO. KENNYWOOD RELEASED A STATEMENT LAST NIGHT SAYING THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THOSE SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS. THEY SAID IN PART, QUOTE, WE HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR. AND OUT OF THE OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION WILL BE EXPANDING OUR EVENING CHAPERON POLICY TO BE IN EFFECT ALL DAY SATURDAY. NOW, KENNYWOOD HAS HAD A CHAPERON POLICY SINCE 2021, WHERE GUESTS 17 AND YOUNGER HAVE TO BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT AFTER 4 P.M. THEN BACK IN AUGUST, THEY CANCELED THEIR 21 UP NIGHTS AFTER FIGHTS DURING LATE NIGHT EVENTS. EVERYONE WE SPOKE TO HERE AT THE PARK TODAY SAID THEY MIGHT AS WELL TRY THIS POLICY OUT AND SEE HOW IT WORKS, SINCE FIRST AND FOREMOST, THIS IS A FAMILY ORIENTED PLACE. I MEAN, I DON’T THINK IT’S A BAD IDEA. I MEAN, IT’S IT’S IT BRINGS UP A GREAT QUESTION. I MEAN, AT WHAT POINT OR HOW OLD ARE YOUR KIDS OLD ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO, YOU KNOW, GO TO KENNYWOOD BY THEMSELVES, YOU KNOW, CERTAINLY YOU WOULD HOPE THAT A 17 YEAR OLD WOULD BE ABLE TO, YOU KNOW, ACT RESPONSIBLY. A new chaperone policy is coming to Sandcastle Water Park.Beginning Friday, July 10, guests 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult 21 or older while visiting the park in West Homestead, Allegheny County.Sandcastle announced the new policy on its website and social media on Monday afternoon.Looking for more news in your area | Subscribe to the WTAE YouTube ChannelKennywood Park enacted a similar policy earlier this year. Sandcastle general manager Ricky Spicuzza, who holds the same position at Kennywood, said he has seen a “positive impact” from Kennywood’s chaperone policy.”We’ve heard from many guests who appreciate the welcoming atmosphere it has helped reinforce, and that feedback gave us confidence to introduce the same policy at Sandcastle,” Spicuzza said in a statement. “While each park offers a different experience, they share the same commitment to providing a place where families can create memories worth repeating together. A new chaperone policy is coming to Sandcastle Water Park.
