Adventure Aquarium in Camden, New Jersey, is set to unveil “Shark & Ray Summer.” This program, running July 13 through Aug. 16, features immersive exhibits, educational talks, behind-the-scenes feedings, and family-friendly activities centered on sharks and rays.
“Stingrays and sharks are close evolutionary cousins, sharing the same environment and a unique and ancient cartilaginous bond,” said Alicia Longo, collections, conservation, and development coordinator, in a statement shared with the Cherry Hill Courier-Post. “By expanding our annual Shark Summer program to celebrate both, we are able to give guests a much more complete picture of how these fascinating creatures coexist and shape our oceans.”
According to aquarium officials, “Shark & Ray Summer” will feature seven new ways for families to learn and play using the sharks and rays as teaching tools:
“All About Eagle Rays Talks”“Sing-Along with Gill”“Shark & Ray Lab”“Shark & Ray Game Corner”“Dance ‘n’ Play with Gill”“Shark & Ray Puppet Show”“Bubble Shark and Inner Tube Photo Ops”
Special limited-time Feed Tours are scheduled to give visitors a behind-the-scenes look at shark feeding. They will take place in Shark Realm (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10 a.m.) and Ocean Realm (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 1 p.m.).
Guests 21 and older can also enjoy a special aquarium experience, a first-ever “Sunset with the Sharks” event on July 24. During the event, visitors will enjoy sunset views of the Philadelphia skyline after hours.
