BUTLER TWP., Pa. – State Police, family, friends and community members are preparing to say goodbye to Trooper Michael Pahira Jr. Wednesday morning in Schuylkill County.
Trooper Pahira was hit and killed during a traffic stop on interstate 81 last week.

Those services are taking place at North Schuylkill Junior/Senior High School on Academy Lane.
The procession passed by for Trooper Pahira on Fountain Street, and it was a somber sight, seeing all of these agencies come together to honor one of their own. The procession made its way through an archway set up by a handful of neighboring fire departments, representing how many agencies are showing their support.
Wednesday’s funeral services are now underway, with visitation running until 10 a.m. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Both of these are open to the public.

Trooper Pahira Jr. tragically lost his life in the line of duty on July 1 after he was hit by a tractor trailer during a commercial vehicle inspection on interstate 81 in Cass Township.
The out of state driver that hit him was arrested and is facing multiple charges including homicide by vehicle.

Heavy traffic is expected in the area during the services with many members of the community coming to pay their respects.
