Joseph P. Mullarkey
OBITUARY
Joseph P. Mullarkey, 68, a long-time resident of West Scranton, passed away Saturday afternoon at Paoli Hospital. His devoted wife is the former Marie Kusy; the couple would have celebrated their 44th anniversary September 18th.
Born in Scranton on September 11, 1957, and son of the late Patrick Mullarkey and Angela Ferraro Mullarkey Minella, Joseph was a graduate of the former Bishop Hannan High School. He was a dedicated manager of Brunetti’s Supermarket, Scranton, for nearly four decades, where he met his wife, Marie, made many friends, worked alongside each one of his children, and always provided a warm smile and a helping hand to every customer.
Joseph was a devoted Catholic and faithful member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in West Scranton. He loved spending time with family and friends, playing golf, and going for walks. He was always known for his athleticism and is still known as Chet the Jet, his high school nickname. His children and grandchildren still hear stories from Joes friends about the legend that he was on the basketball court. Known lovingly by his grandchildren as Pa, his greatest joy came from spending time with them. Whether it was watching them play sports or having a dance off, he was a fun, loving and devoted Pa.
In addition to his beloved wife, Marie, he is survived by his children, Stacy Black and husband, Jay; Kelly Mullarkey and husband, Joe; C.J. Mullarkey and partner, Audry Blaustein; and Patrick Mullarkey and wife, Molly. He was the proud grandfather of Gavin, Christopher, Talan, Lilyannah, Trey, Sadie, and Colin. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Johns, mother-in-law, Stella Kusy, as well as nephews and a niece.
He is preceded in death by a beloved sister, Kathleen Mullarkey, and stepfather, Angelo Minella.
Passing away peacefully after a brief illness, he will be forever missed by his family and friends.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday, July 13th, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 1403 Jackson St., in West Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Richard Fox, pastor. Those attending the services are asked to go directly to church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Northeast PA, 57 N. Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
Arrangements are under the care of the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton. Please visit the funeral home’s website for directions or to leave a condolence.
