Three athletes from the Examiner’s coverage area were honored at the Scranton Times-Tribune’s annual Athlete of the Week ceremony held on Thursday, June 25, at Lackawanna College.
Elk Lake’s Kendel Jones was honored and presented with medals for being named an Athlete of the Week and the Performer of the Year in both boys cross country and boys track & field. He is a multi-time winner of both of those awards and graduates as one of the area’s distance running greats.
Lackawanna Trail had two athletes honored. Isaac Ryon was named an Athlete of the Week and the Offensive Player of the Year in football. Ryon set the LIAA single season record for both rushing yards and touchdowns in a season while leading the Lions to their fifth straight District 2 Championship.
Trail’s Greta Krimmel was honored as field hockey’s Performer of the Year. She finished her Lions career with 160 points and will continue her career at Hofstra University.
