Man accused of threatening Gov. Josh Shapiro

GKL News 8 starts with breaking news and welcome to News 8 at noon everyone. I’m Brian Roach. That breaking news. Police in Columbia, Lancaster County are investigating what they call *** suspected homicide. News Aid’s Bailey Martin joins us live from the Columbia Police Department with the latest on this investigation. Brian, I’m actually here where police were earlier this morning. The roads Linden Street and 3rd Street are now back open after police had this main intersection closed off for hours because of *** body found laying in the street here. Now we still have *** lot of unanswered questions going into this afternoon, but we are working today to learn more. This is what that scene looked like this morning when police were here. Just *** few hours ago, the Lancaster County coroner says this death is considered suspicious and are now treating this as *** homicide investigation. We still do not know who that person is or what led up to the point of the body being found, but neighbors we spoke with say that from what they could see, it looked like *** man laying in the street with shorts and *** t-shirt on, and it really was *** shocking way to be woken up. Yeah, I got woken up around 3:30 this morning to the red and blue lights coming in my windows, and when I looked out, I’ve seen multiple police cars and caution tape. Well, since we’ve been here in Columbia this morning working to learn more, we did stop by the police station and we’re told that updates should be released throughout the day. We of course will bring you those details as soon as we get them. Now the newest information at noon here is that Linden Street and Third Streets are back open. Traffic is moving through here now. Police were originally asking the public to stay clear of this area, but that scene is now cleared. We’ll bring you updates from police as we get them throughout the day, but live in Columbia borough, Bailey Martin WGAL News. More breaking news in Lancaster County. The coroner is on the scene of *** crash that shut down *** stretch of Route 322 in East Earl Township. The crash happened near Sheephill Road around 8:30 this morning. No word on how soon the road will reopen or what caused that crash. The damage toll continues to be tallied across the Susquehanna Valley following this weekend’s deadly and destructive storms. Airview 8 flying over the FedEx facility in Middletown, Dauphin County, where, as you can see, the roof caved in during the severe weather. And in Lancaster County, some are still without power 3 days after News 8 spotted power crews leaving the Eden resort on Eden Road in hard-hit Mannheim Township this morning. Looking at the license plates on the vehicles, it appears the crews are from several different states. The National Weather Service says an EF-1 tornado touched down over the weekend in Perry County. The Weather Service says the tornado started just after 7 Sunday night just north of Evergreen Drive in Rye Township. It says most of the damage was along Lamb’s Gap Road near the edge of the state game lands. There, numerous trees were uprooted. The service says the tornado was on the ground for about 4 minutes. The Weather Service also says it had *** maximum wind speed of 100 MPH. *** New York County Board of Commissioners has issued *** disaster emergency, *** declaration in the wake of severe storms that impacted areas over the weekend. With more on that, here’s meteorologist Ryan Argenti. Yeah, in terms of the weather, we had, we had, uh, some pretty intense storms this past weekend. Saturday had some intense storms, and we had, uh, multiple tornado warnings. That was when that Perry County tornado hit was on Sunday, uh, but we are now getting into *** bit of *** calmer stretch, but we are looking at. Yet another, uh, chance of some storms, especially as we get into tomorrow. So today seeing more sunshine and we’re warmer for today, Thursday. We are looking at the chance of some scattered thunderstorms once again, warm and humid. I do want to make *** note, the chance for these storms, they’re not going to be as impactful as they were this past weekend. So I just wanted to emphasize on that. Friday though, still looking at another chance of *** few afternoon and evening thunderstorms, still remaining humid into. The end of the work week. So here’s the, uh, what we call the convective outlook for our Thursday. We’re on *** level 1 out of 5 severe weather risks. So it’s *** lower risk for seeing any of these storms becoming strong to severe. Temperatures are into the 70s right now. Got *** straight 81 degree reading in Carlisle, 77 in Lancaster, 74 in Chambersburg. Still *** bit humid out there and into the mid to upper 60s range in terms of our dew points. So still feeling *** little. Sticky or *** little humid out there today, so you will see, we’ll continue to see some, uh, decreasing cloud cover. We’ll see partly to mostly sunny conditions by the middle of the afternoon into the evening, but clouds do return once again just ahead of our next system that’s going to bring that storm chance heading into tomorrow, and we’ll talk more about that full impact day forecast, Brian, coming up here in just *** few more minutes. 4 homes in Mannheim Township, Lancaster County have been condemned following storm damage. The owner of one of those homes on Fiddler’s Green Road says her family was sitting down for dinner on the 4th when the storm came through. Giant tree, and I mean giant tree down through here. Right down through here and this was just pouring water. I mean pouring water. I have seen it before because I did Hurricane Helene relief work and I saw it after the storm down in Tennessee. I saw the same thing, but I never thought I would be part of it. Never thought I would be part of it, she says they were told it could take weeks for all the damage to get cleared up. Police in East Cacalico Township, Lancaster County, they’re asking for help identifying the driver of *** vehicle involved in *** hit and run crash. This silver sedan seen here drove into *** resident’s driveway in the Carriage Hill development, crashing into the garage door before driving off. This happened on Friday, June 26th, around 5:30 in the morning. Crews responded to *** report of *** leak that was seeping into *** creek in Spring Garden Township in York County. This is *** look where York County Emergency Management says this started around 4:30 yesterday afternoon along South George Street. That’s near the York College campus. Authorities say the leak caused *** foamy white substance to form in the creek. York County Emergency Management says the Department of Environmental Protection is now looking into this situation. Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael Pajera Junior, who was killed in the line of duty last week, is being laid to rest in Schuylkill County today. *** tractor trailer hit Pajera while he was conducting *** safety inspection on I-81. The driver, 30 three-year-old Michael Bond, is now charged with homicide. The Department of Homeland Security says Bond has been in the US illegal from Haiti since last summer. 5 more cases of measles in Pennsylvania, bringing the total now to 94. Lancaster County still leading the state with 48 cases. And to put this year’s measles cases in perspective, last year there were 16 measles cases in Pennsylvania. In 2024 there were only 4. New Iranian strikes overnight on US bases in the Persian Gulf. This comes after the US launched new strikes against Iranian targets, and the president is casting serious doubt now on the state of the fragile ceasefire. NBC’s Alice Barr has more. President Trump in Turkey meeting this morning with the NATO allies. He again accused of not doing enough to help with the Iran war that he and Israel launched without consulting them just as that conflict is flaring up. The president was asked if the ceasefire with Iran is now over. As far as I’m concerned, it’s over. I’ll speak to our negotiators. They want to negotiate as far as I’m concerned. It’s just *** waste of time dealing with them. US Central Command released new video overnight of what it called powerful strikes on more than 80 Iranian military targets, saying it’s retaliation for Iran attacking three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, which Centcom called *** clear violation of the ceasefire. I told them every time you hit, we hit. And of course they’re dirty players, so they they go after everyone. In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said it launched attacks overnight against American bases in the Gulf, with missile alerts sounding in Bahrain and Kuwait. It’s unclear if there was damage. The Pentagon hasn’t commented. The Trump administration also targeting Iran’s economy, revoking *** waiver from the preliminary. The peace deal that allowed Iran to sell its oil on the open market. The fast moving developments sending oil prices surging, all as President Trump is set to meet today with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky following calls with both him and Russian President Putin. With Russia stepping up its deadly attacks, Zelensky is pressing the US For more Patriot missile defense systems as quick as possible, as much as possible, as two wars hang over *** critical summit. Another focus at the summit is President Trump’s push to get NATO allies to boost their defense spending again beyond already increased targets. Member nations revealed new military projects worth billions of dollars to show their progress so far.

BROOKHAVEN, Pa. —

A Delaware County man has been charged with making terroristic threats against the governor and a state lawmaker, Pennsylvania State Police announced.

Investigators said Richard Franklin of Brookhaven Borough entered the office of 161st District Representative Leanne Krueger on Monday.

Troopers said Franklin used an antisemitic ethnic slur while communicating a threat of arson against the governor’s mansion.

They also said Franklin described his statements as “positive in nature” because the governor and his family survived the previous arson.

Franklin was taken into custody and charged with terroristic threats.
