State Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) and State Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-23) recently announced their intention to introduce legislation in their respective chambers that would name a portion of I-81 in Schuylkill County as the “PSP Trooper Michael E. Pahira Jr. Memorial Interchange.”
Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael Pahira Jr. was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer while performing a routine commercial vehicle safety inspection on a section of Interstate 81 in Cass Twp. on July 1.
Pahira served with the Pennsylvania State Police for almost 20 years and was assigned to Troop L in Frackville.
Funeral services were held at North Schuylkill Jr./Sr. High School on Wednesday, where Pahira was remembered for having “the heart of a giant.”
“In honor of his memory, Senator Argall as well as myself, will be introducing legislation designating Exit 119 on I-81 as the PSP Trooper Michael E. Pahira, Jr. Memorial Interchange,” Twardzik said in a memo circulated to House members. “Please join in honoring Trooper Pahira’s courageous service and ultimate sacrifice, by adding your name as a cosponsor to this invaluable legislation.”
