OBITUARY
Marilyn J. (Mirtz) Woellmer, of S. Abington Twp., passed away on Tuesday morning at Green Ridge Health Care Center in Scranton. She was 78 years old.
On June 21, 2020, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daryl Dunn Woellmer.
Born in Scranton on November 28, 1947, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Henry and Olga (Williams) Mirtz, and step-daughter of Robert Crossin. Raised in Dunmore, she was a 1965 graduate of Dunmore High School. After working as a secretary at the former Glenwood Ford, she worked as an H.R. supervisor for Paper Magic Group before retiring as an aide and librarian for the Abington Heights School District.
To be remembered in so many ways, Marilyn’s fondest memories were made alongside her husband. The couple loved to vacation, were avid golfers, were league bowlers at Idle Hour Lanes and were regulars for broadway and theater at the Scranton Cultural Center. She loved a good dinner out, a good episode of The Price is Right, and all Hallmark Channel movies.
She was also a strong supporter of the Parents Loving Children Through Autism Foundation (PLCTA) in Scranton.
Above all else came her family, especially her adored grandchildren. Never to be forgotten, Marilyn will be dearly missed by her loved ones.
She is survived by her family including her children, Denise Strickland of Jermyn, Kristin Hamilton and husband Mark of Millerton and Richard Woellmer and wife Cathy of Bethel; four grandchildren, Kelly Strickland and Jay, Kyle Strickland, Chad Strickland and wife Savannah and Micah Hamilton; five great-granddaughters, Syrena, Lily, EverlyRose, Willow and Isabella; her sisters, twin Marji Powers of Newtown and Debbie Walsh of Roaring Brook Twp.; step-sisters, Karen Rose and husband Charles of Scranton and Doris Hartman and husband Frank of Scranton; a step-brother, Robert Crossin of Pittston; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert Strickland; grandson, Marc Davis; brother, Richard Mirtz, Sr.; brother-in-law, Michael Walsh; and nephew, Richard Mirtz.
Her family would like to acknowledge and thank the entire staff of Green Ridge Health Care Center, especially nurse Kelly, for the wonderful care given to Marilyn throughout her stay.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, July 11th, between 12 – 3:00 PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
Funeral services, for both Marilyn and Daryl, will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18th, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with burial to follow at Dunmore Cemetery.
