New information has been released in Erie’s first homicide investigation of the year.
Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook has identified the victim as 61-year-old Frederick Torrence, who died after being shot earlier this week in east Erie.
According to Cook, Torrence died from a gunshot wound to the chest. The shooting occurred near 11th and Brandes streets.
Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah said the victim was sitting inside his vehicle when a suspect approached and fired multiple rounds through the vehicle’s front windshield.
Investigators say Torrence then drove his vehicle toward the suspect, striking the suspect’s vehicle. Chief Lorah said the suspect then fired several more shots into the victim’s vehicle.
The victim continued driving before crashing his vehicle approximately a block away from the scene.
Police have not released information about the suspect or any other arrests made at this time.
The Erie Police Department’s investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue gathering evidence and working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
