A Honesdale man threatened four sheriff deputies with a loaded AR-15 rifle Tuesday when they tried to take him into custody, according to Wayne County District Attorney A.G. Howell.
Alex A. Kille, 29, faces multiple felony counts of attempted criminal homicide of law enforcement officers, assault of law enforcement officers, illegal possession of a firearm and related offenses.
Kille was on parole after pleading guilty to terroristic threats in 2024 and served time in the Wayne County Correctional Facility. After being paroled, he was prohibited from having firearms and was required to submit to random drug testing, according to a criminal complaint.
When he failed to report for a required drug test and skipped a parole violation hearing, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest on July 2.
In response to a Wayne County sheriff’s office Facebook post announcing they were searching for him, Kille allegedly commented, “Help find me I’m lost” and “Even though I didn’t miss court but here we go.”
At about 8:20 a.m., deputies went to Kille’s Crestmont Drive residence to serve a warrant.
After about 20 minutes, Kille’s parents came to the door, let the deputies into the residence and attempted to persuade Kille to come out of a locked bedroom.
“Alex, come out, they’re going to kick the door down,” his mother said.
“They’ll get shot,” Kille replied.
Deputies kicked in the door and found Kille standing behind a small refrigerator with a loaded AR-15 rifle resting on top of it and pointed at the deputies, according to the complaint.
They ordered him several times to drop the rifle and raise his hands before taking Kille into custody following a struggle and securing the weapon.
Deputies returned to the bedroom and found six AR-15 rifle magazines underneath the bed.
The rifle was seized and found to be loaded with armor-piercing ammunition, with one round in the chamber. The rifle also appeared to be capable of firing fully automatic. An additional search also yielded a loaded 8 mm rifle with a fully loaded magazine and a Glock 9 mm pistol, according to arrest papers. Multiple loaded shotgun and rifle magazines were also recovered, along with numerous rounds of .45-caliber ammunition.
In addition, deputies found several smoking pipes, according to the complaint.
Kille was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Janine Dunsinger, who set a $5 million bail. He remains at the Wayne County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday in Wayne County Central Court.
