State lawmakers returned to Harrisburg this weekend in hopes of reaching a deal on the 2026-2027 fiscal state budget. Two sources familiar with the matter tell News 8’s Political Reporter Tom Lehman that a $50.8 billion budget deal has been struck between legislative leaders. The spending plan must still be approved by rank-and-file lawmakers. Committee meetings and floor sessions will continue between the two chambers through the weekend. The goal is to have a budget passed as early as Sunday night. This marks the fifth-straight year that state lawmakers missed the June 30 budget deadline.
