One of the most notorious mass murderers in Pennsylvania and across the U.S. has died in prison in Montgomery County.

George Banks died at State Correctional Institution – Phoenix on Sunday at the age of 83.

In 1982, Banks shot 14 people, killing 13, during a rampage in Wilkes-Barre.

Among the dead were his five children, and two other kids.

Banks was sentenced to death, but the sentence was overturned because he was deemed mentally incompetent.

The Montgomery County coroner attributed his death to complications from kidney cancer.
