The 102nd Solemn Novena to St. Ann will start Friday and run through July 26, the feast day of the namesake saint.

Here is what you need to know for this year’s novena.

What are the dates and times for the novena?

The novena will take place Friday through July 26, the Feast Day of St. Ann. Masses will be celebrated daily at 7, 8 and 11:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Novena devotions will occur after the 8 and 11:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Masses, and at 3:30 p.m. Special Masses are:

• July 19: St. Ann’s Parish Mass, 10 a.m.

• July 21: Divine Liturgy of the Byzantine Rite, celebrated by Bishop Kurt Burnette, 6:30 p.m.

• July 22: Mass and novena prayers in Spanish, 5:15 p.m.

• July 23: Mass of the Anointing of the Sick, 1:30 p.m.

• July 25: Children’s Mass with blessing for children and grandparents, 10 a.m.

• July 26, Feast of St. Ann: Mass and novena at 4:30, 7, 8, 10 and 11:45 a.m.; Mass and novena in Polish, 1:30 p.m.; Mass and novena in Spanish, 4:45 p.m.; Solemn Closing of the Novena celebrated by the Most Rev. Joseph Bambera, bishop of Scranton, 6:30 p.m.

This year, organizers changed the evening Masses and novena devotions to only one at 6:30 p.m., instead of two at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Confessions will be available 30 minutes before and right after all Masses and the 3:30 p.m. novena service in the lower basilica. Individual blessings with a relic of St. Ann will take place after each devotion.

Who will speak at this year’s novena?

The guest preachers at this year’s novena will be the Revs. Rick Frechette, C.P., and Jack Conley, C.P.

Frechette is a member of St. Paul of the Cross Passionist Province and a medical doctor in Haiti, where he has worked for more than 30 years.

Conley is a member of Holy Cross Passionist Province and superior of St. Vincent Strambi Retreat in Chicago. The retreat is home to Passionist young men preparing for Perpetual Profession of Passionist vows and ordination to the priesthood.

Both priests have preached at the novena in previous years, said the Rev. Richard Burke, C.P., rector of St. Ann’s Monastery and Shrine Basilica,. He said they have been well received by novena attendees and decided to bring them back as a result.

What is the theme?

The preachers have selected “Reading the Signs of the Times” as the theme for this year’s novena. They will reflect on topics that include “The Art of Dying,” combating fear and denial of death; “A Believer’s Fidelity,” discovering the faith we pass onto the next generation; “The Art of War,” combating polarization and radicalization around conflict; “The Real Presence of Jesus,” its necessary importance in our world; “The Art of Loving,” combating the increasing inability of people to relate to one another; and “Christian Integrity,” an essential virtue for our times.

Are there refreshments?

Refreshments are available at the parish food pavilion at the bottom of the hill at St. Ann’s Street and East Park Avenue.

Where can I watch the Masses?

The Masses at 8 and 11:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. will be celebrated in the outdoor sanctuary, weather-permitting. They will be simulcast inside the basilica, which is air conditioned. In the event of rain, the Mass will be moved indoors.

In addition, Catholic Television will broadcast the Masses Monday through Friday at noon, 3:30 and 7 p.m., except July 23, which will air at 8 p.m. It will air the Solemn Closing at 6:30 p.m. on July 26 and rebroadcast it at noon on July 27. Masses will also be broadcast from 3 to 4 p.m. each day of the novena, and the Solemn Closing from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on July 27 on WQMY.

Where should I park?

Street parking is available around the basilica, as well as on Sloan Street, where golf carts will pick up those in need of transportation. Parking for those who have physical limitations is available in front of St. Ann’s Street and behind the basilica.
