A woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle in an incident that caused traffic slowdowns along I-76 in Center City Philly on Thursday morning.

According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, a lane restriction was in place overnight along I-76 eastbound after a woman was struck along the roadway at about 1:30 a.m., between the exits from Market Street and Haverford Avenue and Spring Garden Street.

Early Thursday, NBC10’s cameras captured traffic moving slowly through the area as drivers were moved into one lane ahead of the morning rush hour.

Asked about specifics of the crash, Small only said a woman had been struck while walking on the roadway. He was not able to provide further details on her identity or what may have led to this incident.

But, he did say the driver involved stayed at the scene and was working with investigators.

At about 6:30 a.m., the lane restriction was removed and traffic was moving once again through the area.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
