Good morning. It’s 6:56. Time for WGAL News 8 to go. Let’s begin with Christine and the air quality alert for today. We have *** code red air quality alert like Matt said earlier. We haven’t seen this since we had wildfires in 2023. That smoke from Canada coming down into the Susquehanna Valley. So everybody under the code red air quality alert, meaning the air quality is unhealthy for all. So you might experience some cough. Some breathing difficulties, especially if you have lung conditions. You want to limit any activity outdoors today. Here’s the current sensor readings. You can see some of those red sensors already showing up in Berks, Lebanon, and even Dauphin County. We also have code orange in some spots and then moderate air quality to the southwest. So this is the forecast for later today. Unhealthy air quality for everybody, and that’s why the code red. Alert is in effect now. Matt was asking about the sunrise earlier. You can see here on our York Skycam time lapse right there. That’s the sun appearing through the dense wildfire smoke. So it’s going to look smoky and hazy today. We’re starting out warm in the 70s. Dew points are also in the 70s. And check out our forecast today. We get to about 90 degrees, but it’s still going to feel like the mid to upper 90s. Good morning. It has been going up slightly since the US restarted its attacks on Iran. Lancaster County now has the most expensive average. gallon in the Susquehannana Valley, that’s at 396. Cumberland County, you see there 391. The averages for about half of the counties in the Susquehanna Valley jumped just *** few cents from yesterday, while others didn’t really increase at all. During *** primetime speech set for tonight, President Trump says he plans to talk about election integrity, among other topics. We’re going to see this hazy, murky sky throughout the day, so it’s going to look cloudy or overcast, but that’s really the smoke. It could even reduce visibility at times, especially tonight. Woman dies from injuries after son beat her beyond recognition, Pennsylvania State Police say

A 71-year-old woman has died from her injuries more than a week after her son beat her beyond recognition in Marysville Borough, Perry County, according to Pennsylvania State Police.Video above: Top stories, weather forecast from WGAL News 8PSP identified the victim as Karen Conroy, 71, of Duncannon.The suspect, who police have already arrested, is Zachary Conroy, 43, of Marysville.Court docs | ‘Get away from me I’m dangerous’The attack happened around 1 p.m. on Monday, July 6, on the 300 block of Church Street, according to police. The witness told police that he saw “a large male on top of an elderly female and striking her repeatedly,” according to the affidavit of probable cause.Two waste management workers were in the area collecting trash when they saw the assault. Conroy told them, “Get away from me I’m dangerous,” according to the affidavit. The workers pulled Conroy off the woman, who was unconscious, then walked into a home, the documents state.Standoff, SERT responseThe affidavit detailed the following sequence of events after Conroy went inside the home: Police said Conroy barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to come out.Troopers established a perimeter around the home, and Pennsylvania State Police called in the Special Emergency Response Team.The SERT team eventually took Conroy into custody.During the arrest, Conroy assaulted a state police K-9, according to police.Officials said the dog was not seriously injured.Hospital staff told investigators that Karen Conroy suffered a 6-centimeter laceration to her temple, a 1-centimeter laceration near her eye, abrasions to both cheeks, an abrasion to her shoulder, a hematoma to her eye, a broken jaw and a brain bleed.Hospital staff also told police they were initially unable to identify Karen Conroy because of the severity of her injuries and facial swelling, according to the documents.ChargesConroy was initially charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault.DA | Conroy previously shot by police Perry County District Attorney F.
