Civil War talk set at Waverly Community House

WAVERLY TWP. —  A Civil War infantry unit with ties to Lackawanna County will be the subject of a lecture and book signing at the Waverly Community House on Aug. 5 at 6 p.m.

Texas author James Knarr wrote “The Susquehanna Union Volunteers.” The Susquehanna Union Volunteers, or Company H of the 4th Pennsylvania Reserve Infantry, was the first company raised from Susquehanna County. It saw action at Gaines’ Mill, Second Bull Run, Antietam and Fredericksburg. A few members enlisted in Scranton and at least two are buried in Lackawanna County.

The free program is co-sponsored by the Lackawanna Historical Society and the Waverly Community House. Copies of “The Susquehanna Union Volunteers” will be available for purchase for $40.
