BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The 39th annual Blueberry Festival will return to Burnside Plantation on Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19.
The event, presented by the nonprofit Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites, takes place on the 6.5-acre historic property often referred to as Bethlehem’s “farm in the city.” Established in 1748 by James and Mary Burnside, the plantation was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days at 1461 Schoenersville Road. Organizers estimate the weekend event typically attracts around 4,000 visitors, with proceeds supporting the ongoing preservation of the historic site and its educational programs.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 day-of for adults, $5 in advance and $6 day-of for children ages 4 to 14, and free for children ages 3 and under.
Family four-packs are also available for $25 in advance and $27 at the gate. For attendees aged 21 and older, passes to the Brewberry Tavern are priced at $25 in advance and $27 day-of.
The event will feature tours of the Burnside farmhouse and grounds, a petting zoo with farm animals and goat snuggling, and live music and family performers on two stages. On Saturday, the band Poor Man’s Gambit will perform a 90-minute Celtic music set starting at 2:30 p.m.
On Sunday afternoon, the Pennsylvania-based band The Wonton Soups is scheduled to perform. The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival’s cast of “Romeo and Juliet” will also perform scenes and lead stage sword-fighting lessons on Saturday.
A blueberry pie-eating contest will be held both days at 2 p.m.
Hands-on children’s activities will include quill pen writing, making clay marbles, and creating tin-punched ornaments. Interactive storytelling sessions will be hosted by The Story Doctor at the Haas Barn throughout the weekend.
Costumed artisans will demonstrate 18th-century crafts, including blacksmithing, cider making, open-hearth cooking, and butter churning. Folk dancing lessons will also be provided by Hearthsong Folk Arts.
Food vendors will offer items such as blueberry grilled cheese, blueberry shrimp tacos, blueberry mango sticky rice, and blueberry-and-cream dirty lemonade. Guests can also preorder various blueberry desserts—such as crullers, strudels, and sugar cookies—online through the Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites website.
