An advertising campaign for what could become Archbald’s seventh proposed data center project arrived in borough mailboxes Thursday.
PNK Group sent flyers with QR codes and launched Facebook ads that direct residents to an online survey. The survey asks questions ranging from how long residents have lived or worked in Archbald to how they feel about a data center located in an industrial area. The survey on PNK Group’s website depicts a red highlighted parcel labeled “PNK Site” in the Valley View Business Park on the southeast side of Archbald Heights Road, across the street from the Chewy warehouse.
“Could a well-designed data center, located deep within an industrial area and designed to minimize impacts on its neighbors, be a good neighbor? Tell us what you think,” the survey asks.
PNK, headquartered in New York City, purchased the 44.5-acre property nearly 2½ years ago from SLIBCO, the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce’s industrial development arm, for just over $3.3 million, according to a property transaction recorded Feb. 8, 2024. It acquired the land under PNK P1 LLC.
Archbald applied a data center overlay district to the industrial park land in November to conditionally allow data centers, subjecting them to a lengthy conditional use process after which borough council will decide whether to approve a proposal.
PNK Group’s website also advertises two warehouses in the Jessup portion of the Valley View Business Park. It also acquired land this month in Moosic for a warehouse on Davis Street.
The survey initially misidentified the town and county, asking, “How long have you lived or worked in Valley View and/or Schuylkill County?” It had been corrected by Friday morning.
There are six data center projects proposed across Archbald, totaling 51 individual buildings, plus a 400-megawatt natural gas power plant proposed by a data center developer.
