SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A water main break has forced road closures in downtown Scranton and prompted the temporary closure of City Hall as Pennsylvania American Water investigates service issues in the area.

The utility said it is investigating a service interruption and warned that some customers may experience low water pressure or no water service while crews assess the situation.

“We are currently investigating a possible service issue in your area,” Pennsylvania American Water said in a customer advisory. “Please continue to visit the Customer Advisory Map for updated information. In some cases, customers may experience low or no pressure.”

The City of Scranton announced that City Hall is closed because of the water main break.

Officials have also issued a traffic advisory for the downtown area. The following roads are closed:

400 and 500 blocks of Mulberry Street300 and 400 blocks of North Washington Avenue

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and use caution while traveling downtown.

Pennsylvania American Water has not said what caused the break or provided an estimate for when repairs will be completed. The company is encouraging customers to monitor its Customer Advisory Map for updates as crews continue their investigation.
