(WTHM) – Pennsylvania is under a rare Code Purple air quality alert due to Canadian wildfire smoke causing an unhealthy haze.
Health and environmental officials are encouraging residents to limit outdoor activity on Friday, and sensitive groups such as children, elderly residents, and those with respiratory illnesses should avoid all outdoor activities.
Here are the attractions that are open and closed on Friday due to the wildfire smoke.
York Revolution game postponed
The York Revolution says its game on July 17 against the Staten Island FerryHawks has been postponed “due to air quality concerns and to protect player, staff, and fan health.”
The game will be made up on Saturday, July 18, as part of a seven inning doubleheader with single admission. The first game will begin at 4 p.m., with gates opening at 3 p.m. for all fans.
Tickets for the July 17 game can be exchanged for any remaining regular season home game based on availability.
Williams Grove Speedway
Williams Grove Speedway has cancelled the racing program for tonight, July 17. Fan Appreciation Night will now be held next week
Dutch Wonderland closed
Dutch Wonderland says the amusement park will be closed Friday “for the safety of our guests and hosts.”
“Our team is closely monitoring conditions and will provide an update as air quality returns to safe levels for operation,” the park said.
Tickets for July 17 can be used any day this season.
Kennywood closed on Friday
Kennywood in Allegheny County will be closed Friday due to the air conditions.
“Our team is closely monitoring conditions and will provide an update as air quality returns to safe levels for operation,” the park said.
All tickets dated for July 17 will be valid on any one operating day throughout the season.
Hersheypark remains open on Friday
Hersheypark says the park will remain open on Friday. The park says employees will be provided with increased breaks, and face coverings will be made available to them.
“Guests who purchased dated tickets and would prefer to visit on a different day should reach out to our Guest Experience team via the Contact Us form on Hersheypark.com for accommodations,” said a Hershey Entertainment & Resorts spokesperson.
Penn National Race Course closed
Training and racing for Friday at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course have been canceled due to the smoke.
Little Buffalo State Park pool closed
The state park announced on Facebook that the pool will be closed on Friday due to the air quality conditions, citing conditions for visitors and staff working outside.
“We appreciate your understanding during this abnormal and ever changing event,” the park said.
Gettysburg National Military Park cancels outdoor programs
Due to current air quality conditions, all outdoor interpretive programs at Gettysburg National Military Park are canceled until further notice. The Museum and Visitor Center remains open.
Pride of the Susquehanna cancels Friday cruises
The Pride of the Susquehanna riverboat announced Friday that all cruises are canceled.
“We are very sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment this may cause.”
