Erie officials hold press conference regarding investigation of EPD officers striking suspect

Erie city officials held a press conference to update the public on their investigation into an arrest that has garnered a lot of attention.

That arrest involved an EPD cruiser veering off the street onto a sidewalk, striking Kevin Sparks on a bicycle, who had warrants out for his arrest.

Video showing the collision, as well as Sparks apparently being punched while he was being subdued on the ground, caused outcry from some in the community.

During that press conference, City of Erie Mayor Daria Devlin stated that the investigation regarding this matter has been completed, but information will not be released to the public until a later date.

The mayor also stated that due to this incident, the city is making it a top priority to review the city police’s code of conduct, as well as create a plain language guide
