ALLENTOWN, Pa. – For the second time before noon, the Woodlawn Fire Company is on the move to a fire call.
With near 90 degree temps the heat is on.
“Today we were in the city of Allentown for, you know, a fire and guys were coming out and automatically taking off their jackets, even their socks. We were putting our cooling rags over their necks and giving them bottles of water,” firefighter Andrea Search explained.
Bottled water and sports drinks become liquid gold, says firefighter Andrea Search. She adds that during heat waves when temperatures can feel above 100 degrees, departments, hers included, run dry quickly.
“We dial 911 when we need them, and they’re there on our worst days; they take care of us. But who takes care of them?” asked resident Monica Hodges.
For the second summer, South Whitehall Township resident and former Commissioner Monica Hodges is asking the public to donate water and sports drinks.
“We all come to the same scene to help to help everybody,” Search said of being on calls.
A small donation that can help fire fighters keep their cool.
