BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — A traffic stop led to a haul of weapons and drugs recovered by the Bensalem Township Police Department this week.

Robert Cleary, 22, of Philadelphia, was pulled over Saturday in the area of Street Road and Tillman Drive when he was driving a blue Buick Sedan with heavy window tint that violated the PA Vehicle Code.

The officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana and saw drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Cleary stated that he did not possess a medical marijuana card. He refused a search of his vehicle, but had on him a plastic straw with suspected narcotics residue on it in his pocket, police said.

Cleary was released, but his vehicle was towed to the Bensalem Township Police Department. A search warrant of his car was approved.

That’s when Bensalem Police recovered a .22 caliber Pistol that was loaded in the center console; a 9mm Springfield Pistol that was loaded behind the driver’s seat, a Winchester shotgun, a FIE revolver, a broken-down rifle, and an extended 9mm magazine loaded with 20 rounds.

Police also recovered suspected fentanyl, marijuana, suboxone strips, gun holsters, a digital scale, and other drug paraphernalia. Bensalem police determined that Cleary did not have a permit to carry a concealed firearm and that the recovered 9mm pistol had been reported stolen out of a vehicle in March in Philadelphia.

On Thursday, Cleary turned himself in to the Bensalem Township Police Department with his attorney.

Cleary was charged with Carrying a Firearm without a License, Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of Controlled Substances, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Operating a Vehicle with Windshield Obstructions (Sun Screening).

He was arraigned by District Justice Michael Gallagher and was remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $200,000 bail.
