While many Erie kids are making the most of their summer, others are working on their own business.
The MKMMA Concessions stand is serving customers at the corner of Myrtle Avenue and 29th Street daily from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. The stand features a rotating group of young volunteers, selling water, lemonade, and various other snacks for affordable prices.
Customers were lined up down 29th street to support the kids.
Mikail Heubel is the co-founder of MKMMA. His goal in all of this: getting to make people smile.
“[The community] has been very welcoming and very kind,” says Heubel.
He tells us stand is an acronym of all the founders’ names.
One of the volunteers, Rosalee, enjoys selling chips.
As many business owners will tell you, starting a business isn’t easy. It often takes support from others to get an idea off the ground.
That’s where Ismet Sinanovic comes in. The owner of Chestnut Street Market, located just down the road, has helped the stand by supplying products and providing some of the equipment needed to keep it running. Sinanovic says he’s been impressed not only by the stand’s success, but also by the dedication, teamwork, and work ethic the kids have shown.
“Anytime [the kids] like ‘Ismet, you help me?’,’“ says Sinanovic, “‘Ok, come on. I give you, you come and work.’”
