SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A 39-year-old Scranton man died after a shooting in West Scranton Friday night, and authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.

Lackawanna County Coroner Timothy Rowland said the victim died at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday in the emergency department at Geisinger Community Medical Center.

According to the coroner, the man was transported to the hospital by emergency medical personnel after he was found unconscious in the 300 block of North Hyde Park Avenue.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.

Rowland said the death is being investigated as a suspicious death, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Scranton police and the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the shooting.

On Saturday, the district attorney’s office told WNEP the incident was isolated and said there is no ongoing threat to the public. Authorities have not announced any arrests or said whether a suspect has been identified.
