SANDUSKY, Ohio (WOIO) – Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s (OSHP) Sandusky Post safely stopped a runaway pickup truck and trailer early Tuesday morning.
According to troopers, the driver was reported unable to slow down while traveling on state Route 2.
At approximately 12:09 a.m., troopers received reports of a gray Ram 3500 traveling westbound on state Route 2 in Lorain County and the driver said the cruise control would not disengage.
The driver also said the brakes were not working, the steering wheel was locked and the efforts to turn off the engine, shift into neutral or engage the parking brake were all unsuccessful.
OSHP said troopers in Erie County positioned themselves ahead of the truck’s path and successfully deployed a tire deflation device, bringing the truck to a controlled stop before entering a construction zone.
Multiple agencies assisted including the Amherst Police Department, Huron Police Department and Sheffield Village Police Department and Erie County Sheriff’s Office.
