HAZLETON, Pa.- Pennsylvania State Police announced they will step up enforcement of the “Steer Clear Law.”
The law requires drivers to move over or slow down at an emergency scene, traffic stop, or disabled vehicle to prevent injuries, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.
Officials said motorists who are passing or approaching an emergency response area must pass in a lane not adjacent to the area if possible.
Vehicles must pass the area 20 miles per hour below the speed limit if they cannot pass, according to the release.
Officers said motorists must follow the guidelines unless they are directed otherwise by an emergency service responder.
The initiative will begin on July 18 and conclude on July 25, according to the report.
Officials said Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia State Police will be participating in the initiative.
