SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Pennsylvania American Water has lifted the boil water advisory issued for part of Scranton after testing confirmed the water is safe to drink again.
The advisory was issued July 19 after a major water main break caused a loss of water pressure in parts of the city. The break, which occurred near the intersection of North Washington Avenue and Mulberry Street, prompted emergency repairs and affected approximately 620 customers. (For background on the water main break and advisory, see previous coverage on FOX56.com.)
Pennsylvania American Water said water quality samples collected following the repairs met all state and federal drinking water standards, and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has authorized the advisory to be lifted.
