OBITUARY

Joseph A. Polster, Sr., 83, a resident of Scranton, died Tuesday morning at Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab. His wife of 56 years, the former Carol Samsell, died September 18, 2025. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John and Gertrude Knecht Polster. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1960 and he received certificates from the Scranton School District in Auto Mechanics after completing over 400 hours of education in 1963 and 1964. He was employed by RCA/ Thompson Consumer Electronics. After his retirement, Joe took computer courses at Marywood University. He was a US Army veteran. Joe was a loving husband, father and pop pop. He was devoted to caring for his wife and children. He was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish. Joe loved classic cars, barbecues, and the beach with his family.

Surviving are his son Joseph A. Polster, Jr. and wife Michelle, Goose Creek, SC, and his daughter Maureen Polster (Robert), Scranton, a grand daughter Adrianna, a sister Trudy Kolodzieski, Olyphant, and nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by brothers John and Robert Polster. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Elan Nursing and Rehab for the care given to their dad.

The funeral will be Thursday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Sacred Hearts Of Jesus and Mary Church, St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 1217 Prospect Ave., to be celebrated by Rev. Jonathan Kuhar, Pastor. Friends may call at the church Thursday morning from 9 to 10 AM. Interment Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Michael J.
