ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Police in Allentown say two men robbed a woman at gunpoint then tried to run from police.
Jahniel Perez-Matos, 20, of Nutley, New Jersey, and Alex Aracena Polanco, 20, of Deer Park, New York, face multiple charges, including robbery and evading arrest, the Allentown Police Department said in a news release.
City police say an officer saw two men wearing face masks and black clothing in the area of Eighth and Maple Streets Tuesday around 3:30 p.m. When the men saw the marked police car, they immediately ran away, according to city police.
As they were fleeing, witnesses reported that the two men had just robbed a female victim at gunpoint near a bank in the 00 block of North Eighth Street, city police said.
According to Allentown Police, the men stole a large amount of cash and a cell phone from the victim.
Patrol officers chased and apprehended the men, according to the news release.
City police say Perez-Matos and Polanco both had handguns, one of which was found to be stolen.
Police found the woman’s stolen cash and stolen cell phone after the two men were taken into custody, Allentown Police said.
