Two candidates are hoping to be the next Lehigh County Executive: Democrat Josh Siegel and Republican Roger MacLean.
Precincts are partially reporting Siegel has 60.61% of the vote while MacLean has 39%.
If Siegel is elected on Tuesday night, he will become the youngest Lehigh County Executive at age 31.
Siegel is a State Representative of the 22nd District, covering a section of Lehigh County, including all of East Allentown, parts of Center City Allentown and Salisbury Township.
He is also a former Allentown City Council member, and current Allentown resident.
Siegel says that as Lehigh County Executive, he will bring together public and private partners to collectively solve the greatest challenges of the county, namely unaffordable housing, public safety, senior care, and preserving open space.
On his website, Seigel says that he was inspired to run for office by the experience of his father and sister, a gay man and a transgender woman, as well as the belief that public service is about inspiring and unifying people around a “concrete and positive vision that includes everyone.”
MacLean is the former Allentown Police Chief. He is a lifelong resident of Lehigh County, born and raised in Allentown.
MacLean graduated from William Allen High School and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree in criminal justice from DeSales University.
MacLean served in the Allentown Police Department for over four decades and received six departmental commendations, including three for bravery and heroism, according to his website.
He served for four years as a city councilman, where he earned a reputation as a fiscal conservative and budget hawk, his website says. During his time on city council, he never voted for a tax increase.
