Erie’s KFC restaurant at 5993 Peach St., has been out of compliance with the Erie County Health Department’s inspections on several occasions since at least Jan. 6.
The restaurant has been inspected four times and been hit with four critical and 11 noncritical violations since that day.
“We are aware of the problem,” said Jesse Stiles, director of Environmental Services at the department. “We have received many complaints.”
The inspection Jan. 6 included six total violations. Two of those were critical violations, including “Sanitizer level was too low” and “Raw chicken on sheet trays found at 44-45 degrees.” The rest were noncritical violations reflecting overall cleanliness.

The second inspection April 22, found one noncritical violation, and the next one, July 22 found five total violations, including two critical. There was no cold water, so no one was washing their hands because the water was too hot. That was accompanied by three noncritical violations, again reflecting overall cleanliness. The restaurant was closed until the cold water could be fixed; it reopened July 23.
The most recent inspection resulted in two noncritical violations and comments about the overall cleanliness, though the water was fixed, so the restaurant was allowed to reopen.
“We have sat down with KFC a couple of times and have come up with a plan of action and we are monitoring that,” Stiles said.
Neither the location owner Tabbassum Mumtaz nor KFC corporate responded immediately to requests for comment on the issue.
