(WHTM) — A third person has been sentenced for money laundering and wire fraud in connection with the sexual extortion and death of a Pennsylvania man, the Department of Justice said Friday.

The Justice Department said 27-year-old Afeez Adewale, of Nigeria, will spend the next five years of his life in prison and followed by three years of supervised release.

The two other men charged in the case – Imoleayo Aina, 27, and Samuel Abiodun, 26, both of Nigeria – were extradited to the United States in 2024 and were sentenced in 2025. Aina was sentenced to six years in prison while Abiodun was sentenced to five years, according to the DOJ.

“All three defendants have finally been brought to justice,” U.S. Attorney David Metcalf said in a statement. “I hope that their arrests, extradition, and prosecution make clear that the DOJ will go after those terrorizing our young people — no matter where the scammers and sextortionists may be. Though this case is now closed, our thoughts will remain with a family and community forever changed.”

Officials did not identify the man or release information about his death but said he was from the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

The Justice Department said, Adewale was arrested in Nigeria in August 2023 as part of a wider operation with the FBI to capture sexual extortionists targeting people in the United States. He was then extradited back to the U.S. in February 2026 and turned over to the FBI.

FBI Philadelphia’s Fort Washington Resident Agency and the Abington Township Police Department investigated the case.
