SCRANTON

A water main break in front of the William J. Nealon Federal Building & U.S. Courthouse on the 200 block of North Washington Avenue Monday morning caused the closure of several downtown buildings, Lackawanna County Communications Director Joseph A. D’Arienzo said.

The county buildings impacted by the water main break include the Gateway Center, 135 Jefferson Ave.; Lackawanna County Courthouse, 200 N. Washington Ave.; Community Corrections Center, 240 Adams Ave.; Brixx Building, 130 N. Washington Ave.; Lackawanna County Government Center, 123 Wyoming Ave.; and PenFed/Health and Human Services Building, 315 Franklin Ave., D’Arienzo addded.

Scranton City Hall, 340 N. Washington Ave., will also be closed for the rest of the day, according to a post of the City of Scranton Government Facebook page.

The Albright Memorial Library and the Lackawanna County Children’s Library closed at 11 a.m.

D’Arienzo noted Pennsylvania American Water is aware of the situation and will start the repair process.

This is the second water main break in Downtown Scranton in the past two weeks.

Susan Turcmanovich, external affairs manager for Pennsylvania American Water, said Monday morning that more information regarding the break will be released once she receives an update.
